A flat surface v open coils. I think that this type keeps melted concentrates from filling the reservoir under the coils . But looking at the design , the heating plate is a square peg in a round hole. It probably will allow fill around the edges but at a slower rate than the coils . Why cant somebody invent a round plate ? Otherwise the magnetic aspect of the coil is a big improvement over threaded coils . Much easier and quicker to work with
